I’m Verity, an English mentor at Doxa. Since graduating with a BA in English from the University of Cambridge, I have taught as an English master at a UK boarding school. Prior to my undergraduate, I studied A Levels in English Literature, English Language, and Fine Art, achieving A* grades in every examination. I achieved full marks in my A Level English Literature, as well as the Extended Project Qualification; my project explored Shakespeare and Feminism.
In the classroom, I teach the (I)GCSE English Literature and Language syllabus and have extensive experience with years 9-11. I have mentored English candidates, preparing them for the ELAT and refining their personal statement as well as interview skills. I also teach drama to younger students, helping them gain confidence and find their voice. My approach to tutoring is similarly empowering; I equip students with the language and skills to access ambitious texts and form impressive arguments. I enjoy recommending texts that will not only impress an interviewer but stimulate genuinely enjoyable discussions. I have experience marking the 13+ English admissions tests that are sat alongside the Common Entrance; I can introduce younger students to the important principles of English grammar.
