PhD in Classics | MPhil in Classics | BA in Classics - University of Cambridge

I have recently completed a PhD in Classics at the University of Cambridge (King's College), where I also achieved a First-Class BA and an MPhil with Distinction. My MPhil research concerned the relationship between the ancient Greek tragic poet Euripides and the German philosopher Nietzsche, while my PhD research focused on democracy in the plays of the most famous ancient Greek comic poet, Aristophanes. I am currently studying for a law conversion at City University, and a longer term project of mine involves publishing my PhD thesis as a monograph with Cambridge University Press.

I have spent hundreds of hours teaching Classics undergraduates and interviewing Classics candidates at the University of Cambridge - and I really enjoy both roles! Most recently, I helped two-thirds of a group of undergraduates at Queen's College achieve Firsts in the Greek language and literature papers I was teaching them, and I successfully supported two students through the admissions process to two Cambridge Colleges. I endeavour to use my experience as a Cambridge teacher and interviewer - as well as a student and interviewee once upon a time - to help prospective students thrive during the Oxbridge admissions process and beyond. I love my subject and am extremely grateful for the inspirational teachers I have had. I hope to pass on my enthusiasm to all my students!

I have experience in a wide range of Classical subjects, teaching all levels of Greek and Latin language at both the College and Faculty level, and conducting essay supervisions on many aspects of Greek literature (epic, drama, historiography, rhetoric, philosophy, and the novel) as well as on Roman Comedy and Shakespeare’s Roman plays. My aptitude for undergraduate teaching earnt me a position as a College Teaching Associate at Queen’s College from 2020-21, a position which required me to take on twenty hours of Queen’s teaching per term, mostly in a one-on-one capacity, and to take responsibility for the admissions process. On top of that, I held a post as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Classics Faculty for two years (the position usually being held for one year). This involved leading Greek reading classes for students on the ‘Intensive Greek’ program for those who arrive at Cambridge without A-Level Greek. I am deeply passionate about teaching – and learning from my students – and I am very familiar with the Oxbridge pedagogical style. As someone who was 'inside' the system, I am in a good position to advise clients on what makes good personal statements, what kinds of questions to expect in an interview, and what qualities interviewers are looking for in an Oxbridge applicant.
