Sam - Oxford
BA in Philosophy, Politics & Economics - University of Oxford
I read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University, graduating with First Class Honours in 2017 and earning both academic scholarship and the William Gladstone scholarship for outstanding performance.
During my studies, I specialised in Economics and Philosophy, studying both for the full length of my degree and studying Politics for one year. As part of the admissions process, I sat the TSA exam and scored highly.
My tutoring style aims to emulate the style of Oxford undergraduate teaching, which encourages open discussion, analysis and challenge of arguments informed by a student’s preparatory reading into a topic. The focus is not only on what knowledge a student accumulates but on the way they are able to think and engage with a whole field at a high quality.
I have previously tutored several PPE candidates in the UK who went on to successfully secure offers from Oxford University. Most recently, I led a 12-month development plan with a student who was delighted to receive a well-earned offer from Oxford for PPE. We focused on broadening awareness of key topics at undergraduate level, deepening understanding of specific passion areas, and strengthening general analytical thinking, all of which are essential preparation for the application, the interview process and university study itself.
