Charlie - Oxford
BA in Geography - University of Oxford
I have recently graduated from Hertford College, Oxford with a First-Class degree in Geography. Here I specialised in human geography, most notably in geopolitics, urban environments, and the political and cultural implications of key contemporary issues such as climate change. Despite this, I also have a strong grounding in both physical and environmental geography owing to a desire to appreciate the ‘bigger picture’.
I have experience tutoring and mentoring students from my local area applying to Oxbridge, with a strong focus on what makes a 'good interview'. My tutoring style is very much collaborative and tailored to each tutee, seeking to build confidence and encouraging students to develop their own intellectual identity based on individual strengths. I am passionate about helping students to achieve their full potential and I take great pride in this. More recently I have also been involved in the Coronavirus Tutoring Initiative, having tutored on a variety of topics ranging from GCSE maths to A-Level biology.
Outside of tutoring, I have been interning at a renewable energy company specialising in connecting remote parts of Sun-Saharan Africa. Longer-term I hope to pursue a career which satisfies my interests at the crossover between environmental issues and politics, keen to complete a related master’s in the coming years.
