Paul - Oxford

BA Economics & History - University of Oxford

Paul has tutored for several years offering A-Level lessons, and has also given online assistance to prospective Oxbridge candidates with their Personal Statements and Interviews. Since 2022, he has also returned to Cardiff Sixth Form College, the institution boasting the best A-Level results in the UK, as a lead tutor to assist in the writing of personal statements in Economics and related disciplines, including PPE. His results have been very good, with former students gaining places at Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, UC Berkeley, KCL, UCL and Warwick Universities, while A-Level grades have been 100% A*-A.

As Paul has outlined in his short biography, Paul has given thorough to each individual test and teaching subject, and have been able to trial what does and doesn't work with previous students. In his experience, it is clear that each student requires a tailored approach, and he will take time and make pains to ensure that the style of exercises and sessions best suit the student in question. His subject sessions tend to be highly interactive, ensuring the student will voice concerns and any lack of understanding can be rectified. He will often set exercises, whether they take the form of essays or problem sets, between sessions so that learning is sustained. With regard to University applications, he takes time in both Personal Statement and Interview Prep sessions to really understand my students’ interests and suggest additional reading to improve their academic acumen. In addition, he will venture to push them ‘out of their comfort zone’, whether this be through University-style lecturing or with challenging mathematical questions.
