BA in English Literature and German - University of Oxford

I am a recent double First-Class Honours graduate of St John's College, University of Oxford. As well as ranking first in my cohort of English and German, I came top of the whole class of English and Modern Languages, winning a Gibbs Prize for outstanding performance in final examinations. In my degree I pursued a range of research as diverse as J. M. Coetzee, Donna Haraway and the posthumanities; the sonnet form in Rilke’s Sonnets to Orpheus; gender and sexuality in the wake of Weininger in Kafka’s novels; and echoes of Nietzsche and Heine in Katherine Mansfield’s short stories. The last topic was the focus of my dissertation which is set for publication in a book of essays on Katherine Mansfield and Germany.

I am passionate about enabling students to unlock their full potential through nurturing an attitude of curiosity that encourages academic discovery. I have a track record of coaching students to academic excellence, with all tutees in English, German and Spanish achieving top marks at GCSE and A Level. I also have over two years’ experience of admissions-related mentoring, guiding students through the ELAT and MLAT, honing personal statements, running practice interviews, and providing advice on course and college selections.

Alongside my academic studies, I am an award-winning poet with a passion for writing and editing. I am currently working in publishing before starting a combined masters and PhD in Comparative Literature.
