Joseph - UCL

BSc Psychology - University College London

Hello! I'm Joseph, and I I am a professional and passionate tutor who has a wide-range of experience teaching students aged 13-18 years old, specialising in English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Psychology. I began tutoring as a mentor and senior pupil at City of London School for Boys, which I attended on a full scholarship. I enjoyed the experience and chose to privately tutor in my local area and beyond. I have taught 11 one- to two-week courses in Experimental Psychology (class size: 18) as well as multiple in Leadership & Team-building (class size: 20) at The Queen's College, University of Oxford, for the Oxford Royale Academy summer school.

Further, I created and taught a six-part pre-university short course on Mental Health Studies at St Paul's Girls' School, The Sunday Times UK Independent School of the Year 2022, to give 15+ year old students an insight into psychology-related university studies and encourage them to seek mental health support if/when required. I have since implemented abbreviated versions of this course at other independent schools, including Campion School, Athens.

In my work, I emphasise going above and beyond to make students feel confident and supported - this has meant writing extended reports after every lesson so that parents feel up-to-date on their child's progress as well as encouraging academic enquiries from students. I most enjoy thoroughly exploring a subject with a student, which has previously meant ordering books for myself and the student as well as performing in-person experiments.
