BA in Land Economy - University of Cambridge

Hi I'm Jamie, and I am a second year undergraduate at Jesus College, Cambridge studying Land Economy. I have extensive experience mentoring and tutoring, including helping students to achieve offers at Cambridge and other reputable UK universities such as UCL. My teaching style is highly interactive and revolves around discussion and helping guide and prompt students to think in an 'Oxbridge Way', where they can explain their thought process and engage with their supervisor. This is an invaluable skill which has proved to be beneficial in entrance exams, such as the TSA, interviews and gives the students a more independent and reasoned approach that will set them up well for university.

At A-level, I studied Mathematics, Economics and Geography, achieving the highest grades for all three subjects. I am happy to help provide support for these subjects and can cover whatever the student believes is most helpful for them. However, I am also a firm believer that the best way to improve academically is to tackle weaknesses and so I will also be proactive and guide sessions so that the student focuses on these areas.

My experience with previous students has focused on all areas of the application process: personal statement; SAQ; university choices; assessments; and, interviews. I am happy to focus on any of these areas with a prospective applicant and can combine this with further recommendations as to readings and methods to engage with their subject in a manner that is more critical and in-depth than the curriculum often permits.

I have mentored multiple Land Economy applicants, providing advice on further readings for the personal statement and the SAQ. I have also conducted multiple mock interviews and helped students work through numerous past papers for the TSA, improving their scores by 10-12 marks in the 50 mark paper. I have also helped these students with Economics A-Level, in particular helping guide writing and content for 25 markers, and I am very willing to provide further support for relevant A Level subjects. I have, previously, whilst I was sixth form taught GCSE Maths and so I am confident that I can help provide effective and valuable support for A levels as an undergraduate.
