I'm Effie, a recent Oxford Graduate in PPL (Psychology and Linguistics). I achieved a Congratulatory First (achieving 7 first class marks out of a possible 8) and was awarded The Gibbs Prize for ranking 1st in the 2021 PPL Cohort. Meanwhile, I achieved 11 A*s at GCSE, whilst I ranked 2nd in the country in a prestigious national Linguistics essay competition run by Newnham College, Cambridge. I have over 4 years of diverse tutoring and mentoring experience, ranging from tutoring at A-Level (focusing mainly on English Literature and Language), leading and advising groups of prospective Oxbridge applicants on preparation for Oxbridge Psychology and Linguistics interviews and support with personal statement writing and development, as well as providing long term support for A-Level age international students completing the IPQ (International Project Qualification) focusing on Linguistics, helping with the initial development of ideas, the execution of the essay and Production Log as well as English language support in order to bolster their applications to university. I am an experienced mentor in Psychology and Linguistics (both for admissions and as a subject-matter expert).
As a successful Oxford applicant, I am aware of just how challenging and stressful the process can be. Alongside five years of tutoring experience, as the Oxbridge Representative at my high school, I successfully mentored many prospective Oxbridge and Russell Group applicants through the application process. This role was multi-faceted and involved helping tailor and improve their personal statements, recommendations for extra reading, and advice on preparation for admissions tests and interviews.
I have also given mock interviews to groups of international applicants for a range of subjects, followed up with verbal and written feedback suggesting improvements to their interview technique. Most recently, I mentored an international student applying for Psychology at a number of UK and US universities, where I helped improve her personal statement and delivered mock interviews.
