Jacob - Cambridge
BA in Natural Sciences - University of Cambridge
I recently graduated from Natural Sciences (Physical) at Cambridge University, achieving First Class honours in my Master’s degree. I was also awarded a prize for writing the top Master’s project in Theoretical Physics in my year group. At school, I achieved A* grades in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry at A-Level.
I'm currently working full-time as a tutor while applying for PhD positions in Physics. Over the last year I have tutored students at all levels from GCSEs to University applications - I have a track record of helping my students succeed in exams and reach their chosen Universities. Prior to this, I volunteered on Summer camps and weekend schools, regularly planning and running educational programmes.
By challenging students with unconventional problems and providing detailed feedback, I helped to sharpen their ability to respond to difficult questions under pressure. This approach led two of my tutees to receive offers to study Physical Natural Sciences at Cambridge next year.
My main goal as a mentor is to build students' confidence and capabilities through a flexible teaching style. I adapt my sessions to fit the unique goals and personality of each student but I always make sure to push students beyond the limit of their academic comfort zone. I'm passionate about my subjects and this tends to come across in the enthusiasm of my teaching; I want my students to not only perform well at exams and interview but also to love their subject!
