BA History and Spanish - University of Cambridge
Hello! My name is Charo. I have just completed my BA in History and Modern Languages (Spanish) at the University of Cambridge. In History I focused on European and World History, from 1500 to the present day. My main focus has been on Modern History, and I completed my History dissertation on queerness in the 1976-1986 'Movida' movement in Madrid. As for Spanish, I initially applied for ab initio, but was then moved to post A-level, meaning I have experience with both tracks. I have taken modern literature and cultural papers on Spain as well as Latin America, and I wrote my Year Abroad Project (akin to a shorter dissertation for languages) on the menstruation taboo in Mexico. I spent the first half of my Year Abroad in Mexico, where I taught at the University of Zacatecas. For the second half I went to Madrid in Spain where I worked as a curatorial assistant at Acciona Cultura. Now that I have graduated from Cambridge I will be pursuing a Master's at UCL in Public History. Having had such an incredible educational experience, I would love to pass my enthusiasm and knowledge on to you.
I have over seven years of teaching and tutoring experience, with students from all sorts of backgrounds. At the University of Zacatecas in Mexico I worked as a teacher, creating and delivering lessons in English, translation and social sciences. Besides this, I have tutored a wide range of subjects over the years, including History, Spanish, English, Dutch, German, social sciences, geography, and maths. During my time at Cambridge, I performed a lot of Access and Outreach work, and I have been able to guide many students on their university application journey. I have also spoken to both admissions tutors and Oxbridge students extensively, and this, together with my own experience, means that I have a very good understanding of what it takes to make sure you make the most of your application. I believe very strongly in letting your individuality shine through as much as possible, and I will be sure to provide the friendly atmosphere required to make you feel confident.
