Blossom - Cambridge
BA History of Art - University of Cambridge
My name is Blossom, and I am a History of Art graduate from the University of Cambridge (St John’s College). During my degree, I was awarded the Nathoo Bursary, a competitive, merit-based award recognising my academic excellence and leadership potential. I am currently studying abroad in Italy on a fully funded scholarship from St John’s, awarded in recognition of my academic distinction and research promise.
Alongside my studies, my involvement in Cambridge’s extracurricular life - from performing with the Cambridge Footlights to rowing for the university - developed discipline, resilience and the ability to thrive in a demanding academic environment. I also have professional experience in journalism, radio and academic research, all of which have sharpened my ability to communicate complex ideas with clarity, precision and confidence, skills essential for strong written work, interviews and admissions assessments.
I believe the strongest applicants are those who can think independently, engage critically and communicate with conviction; I do not teach students what to think, but how to think, supporting them in developing original arguments, intellectual confidence and a genuine enthusiasm for their subject, qualities that tutors and admissions panels immediately recognise.
With over four years of tutoring experience, I provide tailored one-to-one support to students at GCSE, A-Level and undergraduate level. I specialise in History of Art, English Literature and Language, Fine Art, and Drama/Theatre Studies, with a particular emphasis on developing critical thinking, close textual and visual analysis and clear, confident communication - skills that underpin academic success across disciplines.
I support students across all stages of their academic journey: from exam preparation, coursework development and revision strategies, to long-term academic organisation and confidence-building. My teaching goes beyond content acquisition; I work closely with students on essay planning, argument refinement, close reading and visual analysis, ensuring they understand how to think, not just what to memorise. This approach enables students to perform strongly under exam conditions and to produce work that is both rigorous and original.
Alongside subject teaching, I offer personal statement and application support, including specialist Oxbridge preparation, drawing on firsthand experience of the admissions process. I support students with academically focused personal statements, guidance on structure, tone and content and preparation for interviews and pre-examined assessments, using discussion-based practice, critical questioning and work with unseen texts or images. Rather than rehearsed answers, I help students develop the analytical flexibility, intellectual confidence and clarity of expression required to perform under pressure and present their ideas with precision and authenticity.
My teaching style is calm, patient and encouraging and I aim to create a supportive environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions, challenging ideas and developing independence in their thinking. I place particular importance on dialogue-led learning, allowing students to explore their own ideas and refine them into well-structured, persuasive arguments.
Ultimately, my goal is not only to help students achieve strong academic results, but to build their confidence, intellectual independence and enjoyment of learning, skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
