MB-PhD candidate (Medicine/PhD in immunology) | BA in Biomedical Sciences – University of Cambridge
I am a graduate medical student and final-year PhD candidate in Immunology at the University of Cambridge, on the Gates Cambridge scholarship. I achieved a first-class BA and ranked within the top 3 of my cohort annually for my undergraduate pre-clinical degree in biomedical sciences. Being passionate about research, I took a break in my clinical studies to pursue a PhD, where I investigate the immune system in cancer, including ways to therapeutically harness beneficial immune cell functionality. My work heavily applies computational methodology to complex datasets, which has provided me with programming skills beyond my medical education. I am currently working towards publishing my PhD research in high-impact journals.
I have hundreds of hours of undergraduate teaching experience in over 5 subjects in Medicine and Natural Sciences, as an academic supervisor at the University of Cambridge. I have also worked one-to-one with many students and professionals as a research supervisor, and successfully mentored students through the admissions process to Oxbridge colleges, UCL and Imperial College London. I thoroughly enjoy working with enthusiastic and inquisitive students and will draw on my experience as a Cambridge teacher and academic mentor to enable prospective students to put their best selves forward during their university admissions process. In addition, I adopt a “Socratic” style of teaching to challenge students to think independently and critically. Having spoken at over ten international conferences on my biomedical research, I will equip students with the ability to present scientific ideas in a coherent and concise manner. Finally, as an international student, I have first-hand experience with college admissions as an international applicant and will be able to provide unique insight to this challenge.
