Reasons to apply

  1. You want to go to a college that prides itself on its inclusivity and community: Queens’ is by no means a small college, with a total of 508 undergraduates, however it is known throughout Cambridge for its welcoming, friendly atmosphere.

  2. You want to study in beautiful surroundings, and walk across one of Cambridge’s most recognisable landmarks, the Mathematical (or ‘Wooden’) Bridge, everyday. Queens’ is unique in its combination of medieval and modern architecture, comprised by the ‘light’ and ‘dark’ side of the bridge.

  3. You’d prefer a college with a good location: Queens’ is possibly the best situated of the colleges, with a maximum 10-15 minute walk to lectures. The college also backs onto the river, meaning you can book out punts for free and picnic on lawns next to the river Cam in the summer.

  4. You’re happy living in accomodation on site for three years: this feature of studying at Queens’ is regarded as one of its most attractive assets, as students can avoid the hassle of arranging student housing.

  5. You want to go to a college with plentiful, easy-to-access facilities: the 3-year nature of Queens’ accommodation means the college is highly equipped to deal with students’ everyday needs- from the highly affordable buttery (cafeteria) and bar, to the music and gym facilities onsite.

Reasons not to apply

  1. You’d prefer a larger college: whilst Queens’ is by no means small, the compact college layout means its ambience can feel smaller than some of the other Cambridge colleges.

  2. You don’t want to deal with tourists: Queens’ Mathematical Bridge attracts a sizeable daily crowd of tourists, so if that’s something you’re less keen on, try a smaller college less exposed to footfall like Corpus Christi.
