MSc - Biochemistry
Hi! I’m Tia, a Qualified Teacher of Science with a Master’s degree in Biochemistry from Oxford, currently studying towards my PGDE. I have taught over 600 students in my two years at a UK secondary school, teaching Biology and Chemistry from KS3 to A-level, as well as Physics to GCSE. My love of teaching led me to gain a TEFL qualification in China, as well as tutoring Piano, Music Theory, and GCSE Maths. I have run science Olympiads for A-level students and I currently run a STEM club for KS3 students. With a strong interest in sharing my love of science, I hope to support others to challenge themselves and achieve their goals.
My highlight from Oxford is achieving first class honours in my Master’s project and becoming a published author of a scientific paper, entitled “A Rab6 to Rab11 transition is required for dense-core granule and exosome biogenesis in Drosophila secondary cells”. My project involved using dissection and fluorescence microscopy to study cell signalling in the accessory gland of fruit flies! At A-level, I achieved A* A* A* A in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths, respectively, as well as 9 A* grades at GCSE. I also achieved Gold in the Intermediate Biology Olympiad and the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge. Alongside my academic studies I enjoy playing the piano, with a Distinction at Grade 8, and dancing, having held the position of President for Oxford University Contemporary Dance.
In my lessons, I aim to foster students’ curiosity and guide them to become autonomous learners through developing their problem solving skills, which aligns with the aims of the Oxbridge tutorial system. I am a highly adaptive and inclusive teacher, recognising that every student is unique and requires varying levels of scaffolding and challenge. I am keen to offer academic support in science and maths as well as support with the Oxbridge application process.
