Hello! My name is Thekla and I am a PGCE student of secondary school mathematics at the University of Cambridge. I’m a recent graduate from Queen Mary University of London in BSc and MSc in Mathematics.
As part of my PGCE course, I spend almost 9 months teaching Maths across 2 different schools in the UK, namely one school in Cambridgeshire and one school in Hertfordshire. My teaching experience consists of a broad spectrum of low ability, high ability as well as mixed ability classes of about 30 students on average. One of the highlights of my teaching experience is the fact that I can tailor my instructions to meet the needs of students, create engaging and meaningful learning experiences, and foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment. By implementing evidence-based practices, such as providing clear learning goals, offering timely feedback, and promoting student engagement, I aim to maximize student learning outcomes. By considering the cognitive abilities and developmental stages of my students, I design appropriate learning activities and tasks that align with their current level of understanding.
I have almost 300 hours of experience tutoring Mathematics across GCSE and A-level to both UK and international students. Engaging in personalized, one-on-one sessions has honed my teaching style, fostering a versatile and responsive methodology. Emphasizing the importance of using illustrative examples and ensuring a solid grasp of foundational concepts before delving into new material, my goal is for students to enhance their confidence in comprehension and articulate their understanding effectively. Adopting a personable approach, I actively welcome questions, insights, and suggestions throughout our sessions, aiming to create an enjoyable and mutually rewarding learning environment for both the student and the tutor.
