Milly- Oxford
BA Politics, Philosophy and Economics- university of oxford
Hello! My name is Milly, I'm a recent graduate of Politics, Philosophy and Economics from New College, University of Oxford. I have a strong academic background having recently been awarded a 2:1 degree. During my high school education I achieved top marks across 12 GCSEs and 3 A-levels. I consistently balanced my academics with extracurricular opportunities in public speaking, music and dance, as well as undertaking a role on the college student council (JCR) as the events manager. While at sixth form, I undertook peer support training which has prepared me for working with young people, and I utilised those skills in my role of head girl at my school. One of my responsibilities was supervising homework for the younger year-groups, and offering advice and guidance on the work where needed.
In my own experience applying to Oxford, I was the only student from my year to apply which made the process particularly daunting and isolating, feelings which I can understand are common amongst applicants. I was also balancing my application with a lead role in the school play, and my gold DofE award. I had to quickly develop an understanding of the academic and personal development work that support an Oxbridge application, while staying committed to my other passions, and being efficient with my energy. This experience with intensity and pressure was incredibly valuable, and I went on to support students at my school with their applications, and their academic development work. My main skills are as an essay writer and editor. I have always enjoyed writing fiction in my spare time, and have entered essay competitions focused on non-fiction, and economics. I also had to work independently to find academic enrichment work that would support my Oxford application, and I am well-positioned to work with students to find the books and extracurricular materials that will allow them to develop their personal interests in their degree. I am especially well-equipped to support students through TSA practice and interview practice. In my own preparation for the TSA I improved my score by 25 marks, so I often argue that the TSA is a practiced skill as well as an assessment of cognitive ability. I have helped students to make marked improvements, particularly in section 1.
I am passionate about offering a student's perspective to this and making sure that more applicants are best prepared for what can be a daunting process. I also offer support in A-level economics, GCSE maths, english and french. I have supported students at my school with Oxbridge applications, most commonly by offering support with writing personal statements, TSA practice and interview skills.
