Lola Rose - Cambridge
BA in English - University of Cambridge
I have recently completed a BA at the University of Cambridge (Trinity Hall College) where I acheived a first-class honours. My two dissertations concerned the use of enumeration and counting to create humour in Jane Austen's work, and the function of alimentary metaphor in contemporary postcolonial fiction by Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie and Jhumpa Lahiri.
I have spent hundreds of hours teaching GCSE and A level students, helping them to engage with all kinds of texts through close-reading techniques and then strengthening their ability to express original opinions eloquently. I have assisted with numerous personal statements in both English and Biology to successfully help students get offers from their top universities of choice, as well as taking students very successfully through the ELAT - the Cambridge English admissions test - and extended coursework pieces. I have also been back to my own secondary school to host mock interviews for prospective Cambridge English candidates.
