Jack - Cambridge
MSc in Chemical Engineering - University of Cambridge
Hi, I'm Jack, and I have recently graduated from the University of Cambridge (St John's College) with a master's degree in Chemical Engineering via Natural Sciences. My final year saw me specialize in electrochemistry, rheology, bio(nano)technology, energy technology and sustainability. I completed a research project in which I aimed to model the cleaning of coffee from surfaces using a radial flow cell.
I'm motivated to provide you with a great mentoring experience upon reflection of my journey through Cambridge and having, thus far, been the only student admitted to Oxbridge from my secondary school.
I have supported several students with their applications to Oxbridge, providing advice and feedback on personal statements and supplementary applications, tutoring for the NSAA (Natural Sciences Admissions Assessment for Cambridge) and hosting mock interviews. I have also supported students in their transition to Cambridge through monthly check-ins.
For me, the most important part in preparing for the Oxbridge interviews is developing clarity in explanation and perseverance in problem-solving. The interviews are there to challenge your ability to interact with unfamiliar material and to see how teachable you are. To achieve this, our sessions will more often than not have you taking the lead, exploring your ideas and practising explaining what you are doing as you are doing it. I will prompt you when you are unsure and together we will deepen you understanding of the topic at hand.
