Imogen - Cambridge
BA in English - University of Cambridge
Hello, my name is Imogen. I graduated from St Catharine’s, Cambridge in Summer 2022, after having read English Literature. I have been accepted into the Master’s programme for English at Cambridge University, where I will continue my research into postcolonial and queer theory, which will begin in Autumn 2022.
I have extensive experience in tutoring and mentoring students for university, with a particular focus on the Oxbridge admissions process. I tutored a student 1-1 throughout her application, helping her to think critically and independently. As a tutor, I aim to provide extensive reading materials to my students, expanding their critical horizons and encouraging them to consider a broad variety of theoretical paradigms to develop their writing far beyond school level.
My tutoring experience is vast and varied. In 2022, I mentored 15 students every fortnight, aiding them with personal statement tactics. I mentored my students on how to structure the statement, encouraged them to pursue super-curricular activities, and gave them reading recommendations beyond the school curriculum. As well as having been invited back to my sixth form to give a lecture to the present students on how to write a successful coursework essay, I also tutor students 1-1, having gone through the Cambridge admissions process with a prospective English student. In our sessions, we went through the personal statement, the ELAT (admissions test), and the interview. Nevertheless, I also gave my student an introduction to the history of literary criticism and theory, and developed her unseen poetry analysis - a major component of the Cambridge English interview and degree.
