BA in Philosophy - University of Cambridge

Hello! I’m Fred, and I have recently graduated from the University of Cambridge where I studied philosophy. During my three years I have seen the importance of supervision-style learning. There is no better way of learning than the intensity of one-on-one discussion. It is unique in the way it tests one’s knowledge and improves one’s ability to deal with unexpected questions. Practice in this style of learning will be hugely beneficial for interviews, where confidence and displaying interest are of paramount importance. I have lots of experience of in tutoring people for university interviews and know what it takes to be a good applicant. In my sessions I shall focus on helping people deal well with tricky questions aimed at making you think in a different way. I am also happy to assist with personal statement writing.

I think Philosophy is an amazing subject, and really enjoy helping people discover the areas they are interested in. One aspect that can make philosophy daunting, is the variety of topics covered. However, this can also be a hugely positive fact about philosophy as it allows for specialisation into areas of particular interest. I think that it is valuable for prospective students to have an idea of topics that they particularly enjoy. I am happy to facilitate getting to grips with topics of interest by providing accessible reading and then discussing these in our meetings.

In addition to philosophy, I am also happy to help students with an interseting in theology or joint honour subjects that include philosophy.
