Agni - Cambridge

BA in Computer Science - University of Cambridge

Hi, my name is Agni. I studied Computer Science at Churchill College, Cambridge and graduated with a high first class, having ranked third in my year. Prior to university, I made my way through the intense world of competitive admissions exams in India, and it is this experience that I hope to bring to the table when tutoring. Yes, I learned quite a lot of mathematics, physics and chemistry through this journey. That knowledge might help my mentees but at the core of every admissions process is a sieve that filters for those who can and are willing to make non-trivial progress. Oxbridge admissions are no different and as a mentor, I will teach you and push you to make this non-trivial progress on your own.

Currently, I work as a quant at a bank, which means that my work lies at the intersection of economics, maths and computer science. It is really only the mathematics bit that is relevant to aspiring computer scientists. If you are comfortable thinking about difficult maths problems for long periods of time, you will be well-equipped to deal with CompSci questions too, which are often presented from a more practical perspective. However, you should never need prior computer science knowledge to be able to get through an Oxbridge CompSci interview. So as a mentee, if you choose to work to me, expect lots of difficult maths questions, some difficult CS questions but most importantly, an expectation that you will get stuck in, that you will learn some concepts from every question you solve and that you will be willing to knock at twenty different doors before you arrive at a (vaguely) correct answer!
