DPhil biochemistry - University of Oxford

Hi I'm Dylan and I'm a Computational Biochemistry DPhil (PhD) student at Green Templeton College, University of Oxford. My area of research is in antimicrobial resistance - in particular I am researching how to use machine learning methods, such as graph neural networks, to predict whether novel mutations in pathogens can cause resistance to certain antibiotics. I previously completed my undergraduate Biochemistry degree (MBiochem) also at Oxford, during which I achieved an Academic Exhibition for First Class results in my finals examinations.

In between my undergraduate and DPhil studies, I spent 2 years working at AstraZeneca as a Data Engineer, working in machine learning and software development with the application of aiding aspects of the drug discovery pipeline. It's great that I am now able to combine these programming related skills with my background in Biochemistry in my DPhil research, which is co-supervised and sponsored by IBM research.

Having been at Oxford for both my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, I have a thorough understanding of exactly what tutors expect to see from successful applications and the skills which need to be exhibited in the interview process. I have worked with Biochemistry students preparing for their finals exams and helped them to First Class results, as well as tutoring undergraduates. I have a personable and hands-on approach to teaching and would provide a rewarding and enjoyable experience for students when tutoring them and providing them with university application support.

If you have any questions about my experience, please feel free to contact me at support@doxa.co.uk
