MBiochem in Biochemistry - University of Oxford
After graduating with a Master's in Biochemistry in 2022 from Hertford College, Oxford, I have undertaken several roles in the life science sector. My particular interests in Biochemistry lie within metabolism and pharmacology. I undertook a supplementary course in chemical pharmacology during my degree alongside a summer programme with Ohio State University on the fundamentals of pharmacology. Following my thesis exploring intrahepatocellular fatty acid metabolism, I have remained within the field of clinical metabolism and in vitro study. I undertook a research technician role assisting with a human physiological trial surrounding fatty acid metabolism in the context of insulin resistance, and will be a named author in the resulting publication.
Upon concluding the study, I worked as a temporary nutritional chemist in industry with world-leading testing service, Eurofins before moving to London to set-up and manage the new tissue culture and clean room facility at the University of Westminster. Since this role, I have returned to work as a researcher with the Radcliffe Department of Medicine (RDM), University of Oxford. I currently work in metabolic endocrinology, looking specifically at the effect of incretin hormones on metabolic pathways. I am a proactive member of the research community at Oxford, sitting on the committee for the RDM researcher association, responsible for hosting seminars, events and promoting research relationships across the department.
I have over 6 years of teaching experience, with my first role as a Maths tutor beginning in 2016. Since then, I have been an online tutor in Maths and Science with students seeing a two-grade improvement in results and a personal statement mentor with many satisfied clients. I have previously worked with international students from China to deliver mock interviews and provide helpful literature to bolster their university applications.
During my time at Oxford, I have been a senior ambassador for the University of Oxford Admissions Office. This has given me rich experience running sessions both in schools and on residential summer programmes centered around university interviews and personal statement support for prospective students. Through this role and private tuition work I am proud to have assisted many young students in successfully securing places at top UK universities, and also a mature medicine applicant who went on to gain a place at Keele University.
I am fully DBS checked as of May 2022 and have undertaken ongoing safeguarding training throughout my various roles with young people so you can rest assured that students are always in safe hands. Both my professional and teaching experiences alongside my approachable nature make me an ideal candidate to assist prospective applicants in the life sciences field.
