Ben - Oxford
BA Music - University of Oxford
Hi! I’m Ben, a second year BA Music student at Christ Church, University of Oxford. My primary interests lie in historical musicology with a focus on popular music and cultural studies, but I also have extensive knowledge in a range of subjects such as music theory and the analysis of western classical music.
I have longstanding experience in tutoring, mentoring students both in A Level Music and through the Oxbridge admissions process. These sessions have ranged from guiding students through the A Level appraisal exam and teaching techniques of composition, through to personal statement and interview preparation. Last year, I was pleased to help three students receive offers from Oxford and Cambridge for BA Music courses. Having achieved a distinction in my Preliminary exams at university, I am in a good position to help you succeed through a broad range of topics in Music at any level.
The focus of my tutoring sessions is on the student themselves, and their specific interests in Music. Through my emphasis on critical thinking skills, you will develop a more analytic way of thinking through current issues in the study of Music. We will explore your chosen topics of interest in depth, challenging your ways of thinking and learning how to apply your newfound knowledge to many different contexts. My sessions will ultimately be fun, engaging, and provide you with the skills to reach your potential, and excel in the admissions process.
