BA Law - University of Cambridge

Hi! I'm a recent graduate from St. John's College, Cambridge in BA Law. My favourite modules were EU Law and Labour Law. I enjoyed EU Law because we discussed how the integrationist model, whilst detrimental to the national sovereignty of states, had to be this way to achieve the goals set out by the various treaties. I found labour law fascinating because of the differences emphasised between the employment contract and general contract law, as we are dealing with humans and not commodities. Whilst there are major differences due to this, labour law in this country could go much further to respect the dignity of human beings. I have a broad interest in the theories behind the law and believe that this interest will rub off on my students.

I have had experience tutoring the application process to Oxbridge, giving advice on personal statements and my own experience of the interview process. During this, I gave overviews/introductory session on certain law modules, to help students develop points of interest and academic passions that they can then use in their personal statements. I also have tutoring experience in English Literature and Mathematics at GCSE Level.

I understand that my students have varying levels of knowledge regarding law (they may or may not have studied it for A-Level), and therefore I like to give a basic overview of the law on the certain modules we discuss. This then allows me to discuss some of the theory in an accessible way to my students, allowing chances for debate. I also provide basic scenarios to my students to give theme a chance to apply the law they have just learned. This should give my students confidence in their ability to explain a topic back to a tutor. I always encourage questions, insights and suggestions during the session.

At A-Level, I achieved A, A, A in History, English Literature/Language combined and Mathematics. I also completed an EPQ on Rehabilitation of Offenders in the UK, obtaining an A, and would be happy to give advice or discuss this topic. Beyond my studies, I enjoy playing football and played for my college first team at Cambridge. I also enjoy attending debates at the Cambridge Union.
