I graduated from the University of Oxford in 2017 with a Masters in Engineering Science. Due to the nature of the course at Oxford, I studied all the different branches of engineering up to my third year including mechanical, electrical, software and biomedical engineering, which gave me a wide breadth of knowledge on which to build my specialism. I subsequently specialised in mechanical engineering with automotive, aerothermal and materials modules.

Although I am now working in Financial Services, studying Engineering at university really helped me to understand the real-life applications of what I learnt at school. I often felt the need to learn by rote at school to enable me to pass exams in a variety of different subjects in a short period of time. However, at university I had the time and resources available to me to be able to study in-depth what I was really interested in. Working with some of the best tutors in their field opened my eyes to how designs and formulae on paper transformed into real-life projects. Whereas maths problems at school always have a solution, the university gives you a chance to explore some of the real problems faced by scientists around the world who are still looking for a solution! I really enjoyed this aspect of my four years at university, and want to encourage my students to find the freedom to explore new areas and technologies, equipped with the transferable skills they gain during their degree.

I have 7 years of experience in tutoring students in maths and physics, both face-to-face and also online. I have also taught international students in Hong Kong studying for the IB course. University interviews can be a daunting process, although, in reality, it is just an opportunity for students to showcase their skills and passion for learning, and also introduce themselves to their potential tutors for the next 4 years. I want to be able to help students by sharing my own experience of university interviews so they are familiar with what they may be faced with. I am happy to give advice on personal statements and provide mock interviews for applicants to practise their interview technique.
