Hello! My name is Doroti, and I am currently an undergraduate student studying English at the University of St Andrews.
At GCSE level, I achieved grade 9s in all of my Humanities subjects, including English Language, English Literature, and History.
With growing passion for education, language, and the ways in which they interact in our everyday lives, I pursued the study of English Literature, History, and Psychology at A Level, alongside completing an EPQ. Achieving an A* in History and full marks in my English Literature coursework, I chose to continue my study of English at university.
In addition to my academic interests, I also work closely with the National Literacy Trust and their Birmingham Stories campaign, aiming to tackle the issue of illiteracy among young people.
My approach to teaching is led by the belief that enjoyment of learning is the prerequisite to success. Therefore, I always strive to identify the most effective learning style for each individual student and help to embed enjoyment of learning into the process of working towards academic aspirations.
I have experience in supporting students to improve their GCSE grades (for example, a student achieved a grade 7 in English Language having previously worked at a grade 4), giving detailed feedback for students on A Level English Literature coursework, and leading creative writing workshops for the National Literacy Trust.
Moreover, I have observed and learnt from a variety of approaches to teaching, ranging from those commonly practiced in a classroom environment and those adopted by professional poets. I have also coached table tennis for people of all ages (leading to the completion of an advanced DBS check and safeguarding course).
I currently offer A Level and GCSE tuition, in addition to support with writing personal statements, advising on supra-curricular activities, and support with coursework and the EPQ.
