Claudia - Cambridge
BA in Classics - University of Cambridge | MA in Management - London School of Economics and Political Science
Hello! My name is Claudia, a Cambridge and LSE alumnus currently living in London. I spent the academic year of 2020-21 completing a Master's in Management at LSE, after graduating with a degree in Classics from King's College, University of Cambridge in June 2020.
I was born and grew up in Hong Kong, where I attended an international school and obtained both IGCSE and IB qualifications. Drawing on my own experience as an international applicant, I have a strong appreciation for the challenges that face overseas students when applying for high-ranking universities in the UK, and aim to help my mentees and students through this process in any way I can!
As a Classics student I chose to specialise in Philosophy and Art, although Greek and Latin Literature will always have a special place in my heart. Academics aside, one of the things I am most proud of from my time at Cambridge is my role as elected President of the King's College Student Union ("KCSU"), where I was able to collaborate with my peers and represent the student voice at both College and University level. In this role I became confident in my abilities as a strong communicator and role model.
My role as a Cambridge access ambassador has prepared me well for mentorship and tutoring, as I am familiar with UK university application processes that go beyond my own experience. I have advised dozens of sixth-form students on the various choices they have to make for themselves when thinking about university applications e.g. course choice, university choice, college choice etc, and will continue to draw on this experience as a private tutor.
I am a clear communicator, and aim to adapt my teaching style to best suit the needs of those I am teaching to create the most engaging experience possible. In my one-to-one sessions I also aim to draw on my experience of 'supervision/tutorial' style teaching; I believe that engaging in a dialogue with a supervisor is the best way to learn, and avoid lecture-style teaching, instead prioritising student engagement.
I supported a Classics applicant in the most recent application season, offering them mock interview practice that covered relevant topics including material culture and literature unseens, philosophical questioning, and historical debate, and this candidate successfully received an offer from Oxford.
Recently, my free time has been spent visiting all the incredible museums London has on offer (the National Gallery is my current favourite), dog-spotting in local parks and running in Hampstead Heath.
