BA in Philosophy and French - University of Oxford

Hi! I'm a graduate from Oxford in BA Philosophy and French. As part of my course, I spent 7 months teaching English across 3 different schools in Marseille. I took French modules in Early Modern and Medieval Literature alongside compulsory modules in translation. In Philosophy, I took modules in Ethics, Plato, Aesthetics, and Theory of Politics. One of the highlights of my academic experience at Oxford was a first-class thesis in human-robot interaction alongside a supervisor from the Oxford Future of Humanity Institute. Here, I examined the development of conversational robots and machine learning in the field of AI and our socio-epistemological relationship with these robots. I have since taken up a research collaborator position at Vin University in Hanoi and presented at the 2023 Asia-Pacific Philosophy of Science Conference. I have a strong interest in all things related to both sides of my degree, and I believe that this broad interest stands me in good stead to help students likewise develop their own academic passions and points of interest!

At A-Level, I achieved A*, A, D2, D2 in French, Philosophy, English, and GPR in addition to an A in AS Maths. I am therefore well-versed in all of these subjects and have experience in Extended Essay writing for Pre-U English as well as Dissertation writing in GPR which resembles an EPQ project. Beyond my studies, I am a keen sportsman; I played both rugby and football for Oxford.

I have over 500 hours of experience tutoring French, English, and Philosophy across GCSE and A-Level as well as providing university application support for UK and international students to British and American universities. I have tutored undergraduates at LSE and Harvard and have experience tutoring both philosophy and theology for the John Locke Essay Competition. This 1-1 style and my experience teaching abroad has led me to develop a flexible and reactive approach. I am a strong-believer in explaining with examples and building up knowledge in certain areas before tackling new content. Ultimately, students should come away from their sessions with more confidence in their understanding as well as an ability to explain a topic back to a tutor. I have a personal approach and I encourage questions, insights, and suggestions at all times during the tutorial in something that should be enjoyable and rewarding for both tutor and student!
