Margaux - Cambridge

BA in English - University of Cambridge

Hey! I’m Margaux, and I’m a second-year undergraduate studying English at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge.

I’m French-American, and grew up in the U.S., Denmark, and Japan. Before Cambridge, I was in the French school system, known for its rigour and intensity.

I excel at exam technique, receiving 19.6/20 in my final baccalaureate exam. For the baccalaureate, I studied English Literature (20/20), History (20/20), Geography (20/20), Spanish Language (20/20), Spanish Literature (20/20), Japanese Language (20/20), French Literature (18/20), and Philosophy (19/20). I have also helped students with their A-level content. I was the first Oxbridge acceptance from my school, and had to do my own extensive research for my application process. In my first year at Cambridge, I received a First. This made me a scholar of the college, as I was consequently awarded a college prize and scholarship for excellent achievement.

My interest in English literature stems from a love for writing– I have been published in numerous magazines (Cambridge-based and others), as well as nominated for prizes such as the Best of the Net 2021, and Cambridge’s Dame Ivy Compton Burnett Prize. I also currently edit two magazines (The Cambridge Language Collective and Polyglossia Magazine). Partaking in writing as a craft helps understand the construction of literary texts.

I also enjoy the linguistic component of literature: I speak fluent French, English, Spanish, Danish, and speak Japanese at an intermediate level. This allows me to pay close attention to the very linguistic fabric of the literary text.

I have experience tutoring English language and literature, and have mentored university applicants, who have received offers from Oxford, and from other Russell Group universities. I am used to tailoring content to the student’s specific needs and passions.

My goal is to foster academic development based on the student’s own interests, through discussion and sessions that resemble Oxford tutorials or Cambridge supervisions. I want to prepare students for the Oxbridge class and interview style, but in a relaxed and more casual atmosphere– I’m a friendly, and empathetic tutor, who truly loves discussing texts, and guiding students through the process of university admissions. I strive to help students gain confidence in themselves, and develop a critical and conceptual mindset that admission officers look for.

University applications are stressful, but should also be exciting – I am confident I can guide students through this process, and make it enjoyable, as well as deeply rewarding.
