Why?
The Music course at Cambridge focuses largely on history, analysis, composition and performance, whilst also offering an extensive range of other topics such as Music and Science, and music psychology. The Cambridge music department boasts a large professional concert hall capable of seating 500, a music studio, and an extensive music library.
Course
In your first year at Cambridge, your typical week will consist of six lectures, three supervisions, and aural and keyboard skills classes each week. Your first year will be broken down into three primary topics: historical and critical studies, tonal skills, and music analysis. Your second and third year will consist of more small group and one-to-one teaching than lectures. After the first year, you will begin to be able to specialise in topics based on your own musical interests. You will be assessed at the end of each of the three years by means of exams, essays, recitals, and dissertations.
