Ananya - Oxford

BA PPE - University of Oxford

Hello, I am Ananya and I am a Philosophy, Politics, and Economics graduate of Corpus Christi, Oxford, currently studying on the Graduate Diploma in Law. During my undergraduate degree, I studied Theory of Politics, Knowledge and Reality (Epistemology and Metaphysics), International Relations, Ethics, Aesthetics, and Feminist Theory and completed a thesis in Aesthetics. My specialism in philosophy is particularly helpful with admissions tutoring: as it is not offered in most school curriculums, it is the area that most students perform weakest in during the interview process.
I studied the International Baccalaureate, achieving the top grades in my Higher Levels of History, Economics, and English Literature as well as my Extended Essay in History. I was also a finalist in Oxford’s Julia Wood History essay competition.

I have five years of experience in tutoring all age groups and abilities. My students have achieved 7+, 11+, and 13+ entrance to prestigious schools such as Westminster, Henrietta Barnett, North London Collegiate, and both City of London schools. I have tutored English and History at GCSE and IB/A-Level, with all my students either receiving 9s/As or moving up two grade levels over their time with me. For Oxbridge admissions, all my students have reached the interview stage, and most have received offers.

I particularly develop independent and fluid thinking in my mentees. My tutoring style is informed by my experience teaching debating: while leading the Oxford Schools’ competition, the largest debating competition in the world, I helped run workshops for 900 students who had never engaged in public speaking before; I also worked as a private debate coach. Therefore, I encourage students to take the lead, explain topics back to me, and build their speaking confidence – by the time they attend their entrance interviews, my mentees can express their thoughts, analyse theories, and respond to problem questions. I always take an individualised approach to students, identifying strengths as well as areas to work on together. Ultimately, I want to build a bond with my mentee that is as friendly as it is stimulating.
