Mia - Oxford

BA English Language and Literature - University of Oxford

Hi! I'm Mia and I've just graduated from New College, Oxford, with a Master's degree in eighteenth-century English Literature. Prior to this I studied English for my undergraduate degree, also at New College. My degree covered texts ranging from 650 to the 21st century, so I'm well placed to help with any set texts or wider literary trends with which you might be struggling.

I have tutored regularly over the last four years, with ages which range from 11+ to A-level, and I have experience teaching both English Language and Literature. I studied English, French, and History at A-level, achieving A, D2, and A grades, as well as writing my EPQ on English and French poetry. These are subjects I love to teach, particularly History. I am also interested in helping students with their Oxbridge applications and interview prep. My aim is to encourage students to know their texts and exams inside and out, and I tailor my lessons accordingly. I really enjoy teaching set texts, and hope my students will enjoy the experience too.

In addition, I pride myself on helping my students in a wider capacity, encouraging their greater academic goals. In my experience, mentoring students through the process of exams and university applications entails holistic support, from calming anxieties about interviews to reading through submitted work with an eye for detail. I enjoy taking students beyond the bounds of the syllabus, and pushing them to the extent of their academic abilities. I find that this greatly improves confidence in my students, particularly if they know they can do even more than what the exam asks of them.
